A new film starring acclaimed actor, Jim Caviezel, highlighting the global crisis of human sex trafficking, releases in theaters on July 4th.
“SOUND OF FREEDOM is respectfully and stunningly filmed, based on real events of undercover heroes bringing hope to many,” said Neal Harmon, CEO of Angel Studios, which is distributing the film worldwide. “This film will keep audiences on the edge of their seats with suspense and encourage all of us to take action.”
Jim Caviezel (“Passion of the Christ,” “Person of Interest”) plays real-life hero, Tim Ballard, an undercover federal agent who quits his job to become a modern-day Harriet Tubman, rescuing children trapped in human trafficking. The film portrays Ballard (Caviezel) rescuing a young boy from child traffickers, only to discover his sister is still held captive. Ballard puts his life on the line trekking through the Colombian jungle to save her from the brutal fate of sex slavery.
“I am so proud to be a part of this impactful film,” said Caviezel. “In fact, I’d say this is the second most important film I’ve done after THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST.”
This global crisis is far worse and more prevalent than we may realize. Human trafficking is a 150 billion-dollar-a-year business that now surpasses the illegal arms trade. As Americans, we may think this issue only affects impoverished nations far from America. However, the hard truth is that America is one of the top destinations for human trafficking, and Americans, as one of the largest consumers of child sex, are creating the market for this industry.
Slavery is not a bygone issue of the past. In fact, there are more people trapped in slavery today worldwide than at any other time in history. Millions of these slaves are children.
“God’s children are not for sale,” says Ballard in the film. “Better a millstone be hung around your neck and be cast into the sea than that you should ever hurt one of these little ones,” quoting Luke 17:2.
